Tampa Fire Rescue Respond To Alarm At USF

USF Chem LabAt approximately 2:45 a.m., Tampa Fire Rescue crews arrived at the Research and Innovation building on the USF campus to respond to an automatic fire alarm, TFR said.

The alarm was the result of a refrigerator door blowing off and hitting the inner pane of a double-paned window in a chemical lab.

A HAZMAT team ensured the building was cleared. The building was not occupied at the time. No hazardous chemicals were spilled and there was no fire when crews arrived. TFR HAZMAT team vented the building. Fire marshal’s investigator arrived to determine the cause of the explosion. The building will remain closed until all investigations are complete and USF officials determine it is clear for reentry.
