Tampa: California Slaying Suspect Surrenders

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man has surrendered to federal authorities in Florida in connection with the slaying of his wife in California.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Edly Albert Atherley surrendered Saturday to FBI officials in Tampa. Atherley was wanted on a federal arrest warrant connected to the death of his wife in San Bernardino, Calif.

Atherley was being held Sunday at the Hillsborough County jail. Authorities say it’s not clear when he will be extradited to California.

According to the FBI’s Los Angeles office, Atherley was wanted for the murder of his wife in late November. Authorities say Atherley had last been seen Nov. 30 near his apartment with wounds to his right hand and arm.

Messages left Sunday for Atherley’s attorney were not immediately returned.
