(CNN) — Police shot and injured an armed man at a Milwaukee-area children’s hospital’s neo-natal intensive care floor late Thursday morning, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke told reporters.
Milwaukee police had gone to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin to arrest the man on a felony warrant, but instead of surrendering, he took out a handgun and fled down a hallway, prompting police to shoot him, Clarke said.
No one else was injured, he said.
The hospital, located in Wauwatosa a few miles west of Milwaukee, was locked down Thursday afternoon because of the incident, the facility posted on Twitter.
The situation at Children’s has been contained. The hospital building remains locked down until law enforcement issues a complete all-clear.
