Sarasota Man Charged With Manslaughter

Uriel Hernandez, 23, of 1500 North Orange Avenue, Sarasota, has been charged with felony aggravated manslaughter of a child after leaving his 2-year-old daughter in a vehicle Sunday morning.

Detectives responded to 1500 N. Orange Ave for suspicious death of a child. The child had been taken to the hospital around 12 p.m. The circumstances of the death were suspicious. The child had a body temperature of 106 when she arrived at the hospital. The temperature in the City of Sarasota was between 85 and 95 at the time of the incident.

The child’s mother told detectives Hernandez picked up the child at approximately 6 a.m. on Sunday. Hernandez called the child’s mother before noon to tell her the child was not responding. The child’s mother rushed to the house and called 911 on the way. Through their investigation, detectives learned Hernandez arrived home with the child, went inside to get a phone charger and fell asleep.

The Sarasota Police Department victim advocate is working with the family at his time to deal with this tragedy and the family is asking for respect and not to have media arrive at their home.
