APOLLO BEACH — A Ruskin man was killed on U.S. 41 Saturday night when he stopped to lend assistance in a roadside accident.
Chad Louis Ries, 32, died at the accident site, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
State troopers said the accident happened as Ries got out of his Volkswagon Routan to help two drivers who had been in another accident on U.S. Highway 41 near Mirabay Boulevard in Apollo Beach.
As he left his car, they said, a Ford F150 driven by Angel Hernandez, 22, of Ruskin, slammed into Ries and his car.
No one else was injured, and charges were pending on Sunday.
