Couple Found Dead On I-4, Three Children Unharmed

Florida Couple Found Dead On I-4 With Children Unharmed

On Saturday morning a couple was found dead next to their vehicle on Interstate 4, which contained three young children that were alive and unharmed.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has identified the married couple as 32-year-old Daniel Kelsey and 30-year-old Heather Kelsey of Ormond Beach.

According to the Orlando Sentinel the couple was found by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper who was checking on the vehicle at around 2:08 a.m. Saturday morning. The vehicle was parked on the eastbound side of I-4 near DeLand and had its hazard lights on.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant told the Orland Sentinel that the couple was unconscious outside the maroon SUV and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Their three young sons ranging in age from eight months to four years old were sitting in the backseat.

The children were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center as a precaution, Grant told the Sentinel. An investigator with the Department of Children and Families also responded to the scene for the children. Cant said an autopsy will be performed on the couple to determine the causes of death.

The Orlando Sentinel reached out to Jerrell Jackson of Port Orange who grew up Daniel Kelsey and attended school with him.

Jackson told the Sentinel that “Dan” was a mechanic who did “awesome work on cars,” and that the Kelseys were “doing great” in their new city.

“I can tell you Dan was a loving, devoted father (who) did anything for his kids,” Jackson said through a Facebook message Saturday night to a Sentinel reporter. “I loved Dan like a brother … every time you saw him, you saw his kids.”

There were no signs of foul play at the scene and Gant says they are still investigating the case.
