Update: The operator of the motorcycle that was killed in the crash last night has been identified as 29 year old Dwight Jess Harvey Jr. of St. Petersburg.

Belcher Road was closed for several hours following the crash. All lanes have
been reopened.

On 04-09-14 at approximately 8:19 p.m. officers from the Pinellas Park Police Department responded to a serious bodily injury traffic crash at 118th Avenue N and Belcher Road. Upon arrival, we discovered the crash was between a motorcycle and a commercial truck towing a large white commercial trailer.

Based on our investigation we have determined the following;A 1997 Kawasaki motorcycle was southbound on Belcher Road approaching 118th Avenue.

A commercial lawn truck, towing a large white commercial trailer, was travelling northbound on Belcher Rd. approaching 118th Avenue. According to witnesses, the light for north and south bound traffic had turned red just after the truck committed to a westbound turn on 118th Avenue. The motorcycle is reported to have ran the red light resulting in the crash. The operator of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was identified as Robert Smith, 47 of Seminole.

The name of the driver of the motorcycle is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Belcher Road is closed for both north and southbound traffic.
