National Night Out To Be Hosted Tuesday Night In South Florida

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla.- Local police departments are hosting their annual “National Night Out” all across South Florida Tuesday night.

National Night Out is an event that helps bring the community together to meet local law enforcement. The event is aimed at bridging the gap and encouraging safety at home.

Established in 1984, National Night Out is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice and is administered by the National Association of Town Watch. It was developed as a crime prevention program that builds a partnership between the police and the community.

Since originating National Night Out has expanded from just 2.5 million people in 400 communities to more than 32 million people in 9,350 communities in 1999.

Record numbers and departments came out last year, from Miami-Dade to Broward County. The counties are doing it again this year and will host National Night Out against crime.

The goal for Tuesday night’s event will be for neighbors to meet, learn crime prevention tips and to promote neighborhood unity.

Members in the community said it is important to shed a positive light on law enforcement.

Miami-Dade police will be set up at different parks and schools across the county and will begin as early as five and last until nine. The full lists of Tuesday night’s locations are listed below:
