DAVID BECKHAM TO SHARE LATEST MIAMI SOCCER STADIUM PLANS
Soccer star David Beckham’s team will present new plans for a downtown Miami Major League Soccer stadium. A news conference is set Thursday to discuss plans for a site near American Airlines Arena. Miami-Dade County commissioners rejected a proposed stadium at Miami’s port earlier this week.
CUBAN-BORN MAN GETS APOLOGY, CITIZENSHIP AFTER 50 YEARS
Immigration authorities on Wednesday apologized for rejecting a Cuban native’s naturalization request after the man belatedly discovered he was not a U.S citizen and quickly administered his Oath of Allegiance, finally making him a citizen nearly 50 years after he arrived in this country. Authorities say the agency should have granted 58-year-old Mario Hernandez citizenship because of his Vietnam-era military service.
SCOTT, CHRISTIE TOUR TAMPA PORT
Florida Gov. Rick Scott is being joined by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at an event to highlight funding for Tampa’s port and others across the state. The two Republican governors will appear Thursday afternoon at Port Hendry, part of Port Tampa Bay. Scott’s campaign bills it as part of his “Let’s Keep Florida Ports Working Tour.”
SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN TAMPA GIRL’S DEATH
Police have identified a suspect in the death of 9-year-old Felecia Williams, whose body was found floating in Tampa Bay. Temple Terrace Police Chief Ken Albano identified the suspect as 35-year-old Granville Ashanti Ritchie, who was arrested earlier in the day on an unrelated drug charge. Ritchie has not been charged in the girl’s death.
FLA. SENATE PRESIDENT SAYS REDISTRICTING FOLLOWED LAW
Florida Senate President Don Gaetz is insisting that state legislators followed the law when drawing up new political maps. Gaetz testified Wednesday during a trial over a challenge to how the Legislature drew up new congressional districts.
