MIAMI HEAT REIGN ENDS IN SAN ANTONIO
The San Antonio Spurs started slow on Sunday night but quickly rebounded, beating the two-time champions 104-87 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. LeBron James had 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Heat, but it wasn’t enough as the Spurs took a 47-40 lead at halftime and didn’t look back.
CENTER TO INTRODUCE NEW CITRUS VARIETIES TO FLORIDA
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will open a new, 20,000-square foot facility north of Gainesville that will introduce new citrus varieties to the state. The Florida Citrus Repository will open Monday.
UCF PROFESSOR WINS GRANT TO STUDY VENTILATOR
A University of Central Florida professor has been awarded a $2.3 million grant to study ways to reduce pneumonia for patients on ventilators.
U. OF MIAMI BASKETBALL COACH INVOLVED IN CRASH
An assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Miami was driving a car that fatally struck a man as he crossed a street in Coral Gables. Police say Octavia La Dawn Blue remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Police said she didn’t appear to be impaired.
WOMAN LEAVES JAIL BEFORE BEING BOOKED
A woman walked out of the Jacksonville jail before being booked on domestic battery charges. Officials say she passed through a gate that allows police vehicles into the jail. An investigation is underway.
