UNDATED (AP) — A new government report says that while intruders routinely breach the security fences protecting runways and planes at U.S. airports, the federal Transportation Security Administration is not helping airports keep up with the threat. Congress asked investigators to find out how often people get past airport perimeter security, and whether the TSA could do more to help airports anticipate and prevent incidents. The answers: Breaches are frequent, and the federal agency isn’t doing enough.

LUTZ, Fla. (AP) — A 31-year-old habitual traffic offender is accused of running over a man and woman on a motorcycle during an apparent road-rage incident near Tampa, Florida. Robert Vance remained in jail Tuesday night and is now facing upgraded charges of attempted murder. The Florida Highway Patrol says the confrontation took place Monday evening after the two men exchanged “choice words.” The bikers weren’t seriously injured.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say two people are dead and 57 others were hospitalized after attending a Tampa music festival. The Sunset Music Festival was held at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida is going to recoup $5 million out of $20 million the state invested in a failed visual effects studio. State and local governments have reached a settlement in a complicated legal battle that involved filings in bankruptcy court as a well as a civil lawsuit filed in St. Lucie County.

Yesterday, a Tampa company that makes synthetic cadavers for medical students to work on, unveiled a synthetic canine. Alberta the dog doesn’t bark or bite, and she’s skinless and hairless, but she does bleed and makes an excellent cadaver. Made entirely of synthetic material, SynDaver created the canine to provide veterinary students with anatomically correct bodies for surgical practice. Company executives say synthetic cadavers could eliminate the need for using euthanized shelter animals in veterinary schools.

A new survey shows that long term, geriatric care is not being planned for. Demand for long-term care is expected to increase, but the majority of Americans 40 and older lack confidence in their ability to pay for it.

MIAMI (AP) — Police say officers shot a South Florida man with a stun gun after he hung onto the hood of a moving car with a knife in his mouth. The Florida Highway Patrol says Troopers say the unidentified man jumped onto a woman’s car as she drove on a highway Tuesday night. FHP spokesman Joe Sanchez says the man remained on the hood for about a mile with a knife in his mouth until the woman saw troopers and pulled over.

KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after coat hooks with hidden cameras were found in a number of public restrooms in the Florida Keys. Multiple media outlets report the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department says someone has been putting up the cameras in women’s bathrooms that look like a coat or purse hook. A total of three hooks with cameras, in three different locations, have been found so far in the upper Keys.

Twenty-four-year-old Joshua James told the judge Tuesday that he’s sorry he threw the alligator through the window at a Wendy’s last October. He said he found the nearly four-foot gator by the side of the road and meant to play a prank on a friend at the restaurant. He has received one year of probation.

SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. (AP) — Investigators say they’re still trying to identify a man whose body was found in a South Florida canal being eaten by alligators. Two fishermen came upon the grisly scene Monday on the edge of the Everglades. An autopsy was inconclusive and officials say they’re still trying to get fingerprints.

DENVER (AP) — Mile High Stadium would seem like a natural for a legal pot company. The future of naming rights for the Denver Broncos’ stadium is headed for a court fight. Sports Authority now has the rights and hopes to sell it. The city is fighting the move in bankruptcy court, saying Sports Authority hasn’t paid more than $2 million in quarterly payments since February. This being Colorado, there are some marijuana companies that would like to take over the naming rights. They would be happy to link their names to Mile High.
