Interview: Researchers Net “Zombie Bass”

Researchers are trying to answer the key question of what’s in the water to give people who enjoy America’s $48 billion recreational fishing industry information about what lies beneath the surface. Biologists are studying the 11 largest lakes in the Tennessee Valley Authority system using a method called “electrofishing,” which involves charging the water with electricity to stun fish and make them float to the surface. The charge leaves the fish in a zombie-like state, but researchers say they almost always recover.
