RJ Reynolds, the second largest tobacco manufacturer in the U.S., was ordered by a Florida jury to pay $23.6 billion to the widow of a former chain smoker.
Michael Johnson died of lung cancer in 1996 at the age of 36. According to widow Cynthia Robinson, he began smoking at 13 and smoked anywhere from one to three packs a day.
Robinson was also awarded another $16.8 million in compensatory damages.
