He also has some personal experiences he shared. For the last 45 years, John has devoted himself to studying African American history. He is a historian at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum in Pittsburgh where he currently oversees the “From Slave to Soldier” exhibit.
He also served as the director in the education division and curator for Pennsylvania’s first Underground Railroad exhibit at the Heinz History Center.
He’s won numerous awards and conducted numerous lectures at a number of academic institutions for his work in African American studies.
