Interview: Is Chikungunya The Next West Nile Virus?

State and federal health officials across the United States are monitoring health clinics and doctors’ offices for signs that a debilitating illness has made its way into the interior of the United States. So far, nearly two dozen cases have been diagnosed in Florida. Like West Nile Virus, the disease — known by the initials CHIKV — is carried by mosquitoes and so the same insecticides used to prevent the spread of West Nile may also work against this newer infection. ABC’s Jim Ryan reports from Texas.
