Gov. Scott Promises Changes To School Standards

Florida Governor's race between Rick Scott (in the foreground) and Charlue Crist will be both nasty and expensive.ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott says the state will change new school standards and pass laws to respond to ongoing criticism.

Scott said during the annual meeting of the Republican Party of Florida that he understood there was a “little bit of passion” surrounding Common Core State Standards. The governor’s remarks came a day after a party caucus passed a resolution opposing them.

Scott said that Education Commissioner Pam Stewart next week will reveal a list of proposed changes to the standards. He also said the Florida Legislature will pass a “data security” bill to respond to concerns about what type of information will be collected from students.

Stewart already highlighted some of the likely changes last week to state legislators. She said one change is to add cursive writing.
