CRIST AND RICH MAKE FINAL PUSH FOR DEMOCRATS’ VOTES BEFORE PRIMARY DAY

A final, frenzied push for votes is underway in Democrats’ race to reclaim the governor’s mansion. Former Gov. Charlie Crist, the longtime Republican who is seeking to reclaim his old job as a Democrat, has planned events in Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Wellington and Fort Lauderdale on Monday. His underdog opponent, former Senate Democratic Leader Nan Rich, is spending time at a phone bank at her Weston campaign headquarters making last-minute get-out-the-vote calls. Both candidates are vying for a shot to unseat Gov. Rick Scott, who has two mostly unknown primary challengers of his own.

TROPICAL STORM CRISTOBAL LASHES CARIBBEAN; FORECASTERS EXPECT STRENGTHENING

Floridians are keeping a watchful eye on Tropical Storm Cristobal, which formed Sunday and brought heavy rainfall and white-crested surf to the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos. Swollen rivers swept at least three people away in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, but forecasters expected the storm to curve away from the U.S. east coast.

Another man was found in Boca Raton. All have been turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, while the Broward Sheriff’s Office will investigate the death.

U.S. District Judge James Cohn last week sentenced Darryl Burke to 30 years in prison and Vicki Garland to 15 years. They were convicted of conspiracy and fraud charges in February.
