FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A former Lee County Commissioner has been sentenced to six months in federal prison for pilfering her campaign coffers to spend on shopping sprees and mortgage payments.
The News-Press reports (http://newspr.es/1j3Jnym ) that Tammy Hall was sentenced Monday.
Hall pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud in 2013 as part of an agreement in which she acknowledged that in 2009 and 2010, she misdirected $33,756 in campaign funds to spend for her personal use.
Hall’s attorney wrote in a motion that described how Hall “reached her breaking point” in 2009 after her mother died and her boyfriend left her to marry another woman.
She was first elected to the commission in 2004 and resigned in September.
