Florida Orchestra’s Performances in March
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – February 13, 2014 – Next month The Florida Orchestra celebrates Charlie Chaplin, St. Patrick’s Day and more with a range of performances.
February 28 and March 1: Charlie Chaplin: The Gold Rush – Special Concert Series
Enjoy all the charm, pathos and comic antics of Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp as he sets off in search of gold in the Alaskan wilderness and hoped-for romance in his humble life…all with The Florida Orchestra accompanying the film with music composed for orchestra by Charlie Chaplin…an accomplished violinist and composer in his own right…in addition to being the film’s star, writer, producer and director. This February marks the 100th anniversary of Chaplin’s Little Tramp character.

March 5 and 6: A Salute to Broadway – Coffee Concert Series
Featuring highlights from South Pacific, The Music Man, A Chorus Line and more. Enjoy complimentary coffee and doughnuts as well as a pre-concert conversation one hour before the concert. Conductor is Stuart Malina.

March 7, 8 and 9: When Irish Eyes are Smiling – Raymond James Pop Series
Hailed as “one of the leading voices in Celtic music” by the Los Angeles Times, Cathie Ryan will soothe the soul and lift your spirit with lovely Irish lyrics, beloved ballads and traditional tunes of the Emerald Isle in this musical prelude to St. Patrick’s Day…all with an Irish band and dancers. Conductor is Jeff Tyzik.

March 14, 15 and 16: Korngold’s Violin Concerto – Tampa Bay Times Masterworks Series
Lauded by The Dallas Morning News as “a dazzling soloist,” Caroline Goulding plays Korngold’s film-theme-inspired and crowd-pleasing Violin Concerto. The program also includes Thomas Adès’ deliciously playful Dances from Powder Her Face and Prokofiev’s hymn to the human spirit, Symphony No. 5. There will be a pre-concert conversation one hour prior to curtain. Conductor is Stuart Malina.

Stefan Sanderling returns to conduct this concert featuring Markus Groh performing Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 1, a virtual musical roller coaster ride of excitement…all on a night with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 4 and a world premiere by Tampa Bay composer David Rogers. There will be a pre-concert conversation one hour prior to curtain.
