Florida Faces Freezing Temperatures

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Much of Florida is forecast to have freezing temperatures overnight Thursday and into Friday morning.

Overnight lows were expected to plummet into the mid-20s in north Florida for a second night of frigid temperatures in Florida’s northern half.

Lows were expected to reach into the mid-to-upper 30s for central Florida, and South Florida was forecast to have lows in the high 40s and low 50s.

A spokesman for Florida Citrus Mutual said Thursday that there have been no reports of cold damage to the state’s citrus. Temperatures generally have to remain 28 degrees or colder for four hours to cause damage.

The temperature at Tampa International Airport was so cold early Thursday that some airplanes were de-iced.

An airport spokeswoman says that is a rare occurrence.
