FHP: 3 KILLED, 5 INJURED AFTER DRIVER BACKS CAR INTO CROWD

Three people are dead and five others have been hospitalized after a woman backed her SUV into a group of people Sunday outside a Florida clubhouse, authorities said. The crash happened outside the Sugar Creek Country Club at 11:20 a.m. in Bradenton. Residents had gathered for church services inside the building, Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Gregory Bueno said. The driver of a 2009 Chevrolet SUV backed her car in the parking lot, striking at least eight people. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIRMAN CHARLIE WHITEHEAD DIES

Former chairman of the Florida Democratic Party Charlie Whitehead has died. Current executive director Scott Arceneaux informed party members Sunday that Whitehead had died overnight surrounded by his family in Panama City. Whitehead led the Florida Democratic Party from 1980 to 1989 and again in 1999. He is being remembered as a well-liked leader who helped reunite the Democratic party.

BUS CARRYING FSU ATHLETES SLIDES OFF ARKANSAS ROADWAY

A bus carrying members of the Florida State University track and field team slid off a slick Arkansas Highway 112 in northwest Arkansas Sunday. The rear of the bus slid into a ditch. Police and fire rescue authorities responded to the scene and safely evacuated all who were on board. The athletes were participating in a meet and were on their way to the airport for a flight back to Tallahassee.

ECHOES OF ZIMMERMAN MAY BE HEARD IN FLA. TRIAL

Jury selection is scheduled to get underway Monday in a trail that may offer echoes of the George Zimmerman trial. Michael Dunn is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the November 2012 shooting of a 17-year-old black teen outside a Jacksonville convenience store.

DEPUTIES FIND BODY IN BURNING CAR

Detectives are investigating after a body was found in a burning car in Belle Glade. The discovery was made Saturday after firefighters found a vehicle completely engulfed in flames. The individual hasn’t been identified.
