Facebook’s Autoplay Feature Is Causing Customers Serious Money

If you’re noticing your cell phone bill maxing out, your Facebook app could be to blame. Facebook has a feature on its app in which videos play automatically when scrolling through your News Feed.

According to CNN Money, this problem was flagged by consumer finance site MoneySavingExpert.com, who says they have “seen many complaints from people who have been stung with data bills after exceeding their monthly allowance and who believe it to be because of Facebook autoplaying videos.”

There are simple solutions to this problem for both the iPhone and Android devices.

On an iPhone, tap your “Settings” button and then scroll down and click “Facebook.” From there, click “Settings,” “Auto-play,” and then choose “Wi-Fi only” or “Off.”

On Android, bring up the Facebook app and go to your account settings. Click “App Settings,” and then choose “Auto-play only on Wi-Fi” or “Off.”

Facebook did not respond to a request to comment by CNN. CNN suggests if you have been affected by this, contact your local carrier.
