The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has passed 1,900 people, according to the World Health Organization.

Less than a week ago, the death toll was only at 1,552 people. But now, it has claimed more lives than every Ebola outbreak previously recorded, which comes to 1,590, according to the WHO.
Margaret Chan, WHO’s director general spoke Wednesday at a UN press briefing on the outbreak and she says that the “Ebola epidemic is the largest, and most severe, and most complex we have ever seen in the nearly 40-year history of this disease.”
“No one, even outbreak responders, [has] ever seen anything like it.”
The WHO says that more than 3,500 people have been infected with Ebola as of this week. That figure is only in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Estimates from global health officials say it could take more than $600 million to control the virus’ spread.
