On June 20, 2014 at approximately 67-year-old 9:40 a.m. Kent Smith of Apollo Beach was traveling northbound on US 41 in a 2005 Ford F150 and for an unknown reason drove off of the right side of the road.
He struck a guardrail on the south side of Bullfrog Creek and was re-directed across the road where he struck a concrete guardrail on the bridge.
He then rebounded off of the guardrail and came to rest. Deputies responded and determined that he did not have a pulse and commenced CPR. Mr. Smith was transported to South Bay Hospital where he expired.
This case remains under investigation to determine the causes of the crash.
