A South Daytona gang member was arrested after fleeing from a burglary.

DAYTONA, Fla.- A gang member was caught after crashing his car while running from police.

The incident occurred Monday afternoon when Robert Horner, 31, crashed his car after fleeing from an apartment burglary. He was caught by Port Orange Police and was bleeding from his face when police made the arrest. According to South Daytona police, a jewelry box that Horner had taken in the burglary was smeared with his blood as well.

South Daytona police Lt. Dan Dietrich said they were not sure which gang Horner belonged to right away, but knew he was a gang member.

Horner, of Holly Hill, had an accomplice in the incident. Bandon Carollo, 33, of Deltona, both men are unemployed, kicked the door of a Banana Cay Drive apartment in around 12:38 p.m. The men took a television and the drawers from a dresser filled with clothes, police said.

The men then fled the scene by vehicle. Police attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle did not corporate and continued to speed off. The speeding vehicle eventually crashed at Madeline Avenue and Sauls Street and the two men got out of the car and ran. The police report states the men were caught though.

Horner was taken to the hospital after he was found with facial blood. He is being treated for facial injuries and then will be taken to jail along with Carollo.

According to police, when they searched the vehicle a .38-caliber handgun, drill tools and a heavy duty bolt cutter was found in the pair’s possession.

Horner and Carollo are each being charged with armed burglary, possession of burglary tools and grand theft.

According to police, both men are convicted felons and were being held without bail on Tuesday.
