FLORIDA GOVERNOR TO PRESS PRESIDENT OVER FLOOD INSURANCE

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is planning to use a scheduled meeting with President Barack Obama to urge him to halt flood insurance hikes. The nation’s governors are scheduled to meet with Obama on Monday.

DALE EARNHARDT JR. WINS HIS SECOND DAYTONA 500

It’s Earnhardt’s first win at the Daytona 500 in more than a decade. He overcame rain and wrecks to end a 55-race drought with a victory under the lights at the famed speedway where his father died in a last-lap crash at the 2001 race.

DALE EARNHARDT JR. FOLLOWS THROUGH ON VOW, JOINS SOCIAL MEDIA

Earnhardt joked he would join Twitter if he won the Daytona 500. After winning NASCAR’s most prestigious race for the second time Sunday night, he followed through on his promise. NASCAR’s most popular driver tweeted early Monday, “Tonight seemed like as good a night as any to join Twitter. How is everyone doin?” The tweet had a 2XDaytona500 hashtag and included a photo of Earnhardt with the trophy:

ONE MAN DEAD, ANOTHER FACES MANSLAUGHTER CHARGES AFTER FIGHT AT SARASOTA STRIP CLUB

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says the fight happened early Saturday at the Cheetah Lounge. Officials say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. They say a suspect was arrested a short time later after officers interviewed witnesses at the club.

HILLARY CLINTON IS COMING TO SOUTH FLORIDA.

The former secretary of state and New York senator will address students, faculty and guests Wednesday at the University of Miami. While the school did not specify what Clinton will talk about, she has spoken about her time as the nation’s top diplomat in recent appearances. University of Miami President Donna Shalala served in Bill Clinton’s presidential cabinet.
