1 dead, 3 Injured When Woman Crashes Into Building

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — One person is dead after a 78-year-old woman crashed her car into a medical center in New Smyrna Beach.

A 63-year-old man who was inside Bert Fish Medical Center’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center on Thursday afternoon died from his injuries.

Authorities say Janet Spurgeon accidentally backed through the front doors and about 40 feet into the building. She was treated and released from the hospital. Two others were injured.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports Edmond Kestory died after a helicopter flew him to a Daytona Beach hospital.

New Smyrna Beach police spokesman Eugene Griffith says the building sustained significant damage.

Police are continuing to investigate.
