Closing Statements Begin In Schenecker Trial

Closing statements are expected to begin Thursday in the case of Julie Schenecker, the New Tampa woman accused of murdering her teenage children in 2011.

Over nearly two weeks of trial in Hillsborough County circuit court, prosecutors and defense attorneys have called on people to testify who could shed some light on Schenecker’s state of mind at the time of the killings, reading aloud from her journal and playing the aduio recording of her confessing she’d shot her children to Tampa police detectives.

Schenecker argues she was insane as she tries to avoids two counts of first degree murder and a mandatory life sentence.

The case is expected to go jurors later Thursday.
