Clearwater Man Charged With Aggravated Child Abuse

Thomas Reinke

A Clearwater man was arrested late Tuesday and charged with aggravated child abuse in connection to injuries his 7-week-old son suffered during a domestic dispute.

Thomas Reinke, 40, also was charged with domestic battery by strangulation.

Clearwater Police were called to the 2400 block of Parkstream Drive shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday in response to a physical altercation.

Reinke is accused of choking his wife while she held their 7-week-old infant son. She began to lose consciousness and became weak and dropped the baby.

The infant fell and struck his head on the wooden floor. The child was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, and is being treated for bleeding from the brain, a slight skull fracture and a broken arm.

The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Reinke remains in the Pinellas County Jail this morning.
