Citrus Police Shoot, Kill Suspect

Citrus County Sheriff’s Office detectives have identified the suspect in Tuesday evening’s shooting as David James Barclay, 41, of 2450 W. Sand Trap, Dunnellon. Although the investigation into the incident continues, it appears that Barkley went to the home of his estranged wife to see his son. He was armed with a gun and forced his way into the home. The victim, 34-year-old Amanda Barclay, and her 3-year-old son were home at the time. Mrs. Barclay’s female roommate and her young child were also in the house. While Barclay spoke with his wife, the roommate was able to crawl out of a window with her child and call for help.

When deputies arrived and surrounded the home, the SWAT team was called because Barclay remained inside the residence with his wife and son. When he exited the residence, Barclay shot at deputies, who returned fire. Barclay died at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

FDLE will continue their investigation into the shooting per agency protocol. The four deputies who returned fire at Barclay have been placed on paid administrative leave per agency policy until FDLE’s review is completed.

Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the address will not be released per state statute. Please give the victims in this terrifying ordeal time to recover. No one else was injured, including law enforcement officers that were fired upon, and for that we are very thankful.
