Britain’s First Ebola Patient Being Treated In London

An ambulance arrives with Ebola victim Dr Kent Brantly, right, to Emory University hospital on Saturday.

William Pooley, a 29-yar-old volunteer nurse, has returned to Britain and is in a special isolation unit at London’s Royal Free Hospital.

He contracted the Ebola virus while caring for victims of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone. Pooley was airlifted to the UK on a specially equipped military plane and landed at RAF Northolt in west London on Sunday night. He’s the first confirmed case of a Brit contracting Ebola in the current outbreak.

In a statement, his family has thanked those involved in transporting him back to the U-K on a military plane.

ABC’s Tom Rivers has more from London.
