According to police, last night at 8:40pm, Bradenton Police Officers responded to the area of the 2500 block of 13th Avenue East to investigate a 9-1-1 call of gunshots in the area.
When officers arrived they located a male subject lying in the roadway. It was later determined that the victim, identified as 15-year-old Dakota A. Smith, of Bradenton had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Due to the circumstances, Bradenton Police Department Detective James Curulla, and members of the Manatee Homicide Investigative Unit took over the investigation. There were witnesses to the shooting.
This is the 1st Homicide that has occurred within the City of Bradenton during 2014.
