On April 15, 2014 at approximately 2:51 a.m., the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call, in reference to gunshots being fired at the Avesta Apartments which are located at 2016 East 131 Avenue in Tampa.
Deputies arrived on scene and observed a white 1999 Lincoln Town Car which was backed into a parking space in front of the apartment complex. The trunk of the vehicle, as well as the front driver’s side and front passenger side doors were open, police say. Also, the vehicle’s engine was running, but no one was observed in close proximity to the vehicle.
Deputies searched the immediate area for potential shooting victims and observed the victim lying in the grass with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The victim was later identified as Kortney Jerry.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and conducted interviews. Detectives developed information on suspect Demetrick Anglin. During the course of the investigation detectives learned that Anglin had conspired to rob the victim during the course of a drug deal.
