American Airlines Responds to Teen Twitter Threat

American Airlines proved Sunday that even over social media, they don’t find threats to be a joking matter. A twitter user with the username “@QueenDemetriax_” posted a tweet to American Airlines that read, “@americanair hello my name’s Ibrahim and I’m from Afghanistan. I’m part of Al Qaida and on June 1st I’m gonna do something really big bye.”

American Airlines responded quickly and responded to her tweet posting, “Sarah, we take these threats very seriously. Your IP address and details will be forwarded to security and the FBI.”

Realizing that her joke wasn’t going over very well, “Sarah” began to backtrack. She posted tweets attempting to displace blame saying “I was joking and it was my friend not me, take her IP address not mine” then stating “At least I have something to tell at school tomorrow lol.”

Several hours and responses later, the user deleted her twitter account and American Airlines deleted their response from their page. They also issued a statement regarding the incident:

“At American, the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority. We take security matters very seriously and work with authorities on a case by case basis.”
