3 Teens Take School Bus On 180-Mile Joyride

LAKE WALES, Fla. — Authorities say three central Florida teens stole a school bus, picked up other students and went on a joy ride.

Police say the teens took the bus Sunday night after finding it parked at Lake Wales High School with the keys inside. They’re charged with grand theft auto and trespassing on school property.

The incident was captured on the bus’s video system after they had covered three cameras but had missed a fourth.

The Ledger of Lakeland reports the investigation began Tuesday when a routine inspection of the bus showed gas was missing and 180 extra miles were registered on the odometer since the driver parked it.

Police say the teen’s covered three of four cameras on the bus. The images of two teens were captured and the name of the third was mentioned. High school staff member identified them.
