Interview: Re-Purposed Surveillance Balloons Deemed A Success
Six months after putting them in the air, officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection say the three helium-filled surveillance balloons deployed along the U.S./Mexico border have been a success. The small blimps were originally used by the Dept. of defense in Iraq and Afghanistan, but were given new life as boder-waters in South Texas in November. Now plans are in the works to blow up some more of the balloons in June. Jim Ryan has the story from Dallas.
