Investigators are arriving at the site of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 17 in Ukraine this morning, finally able to access a scene that has been guarded by Russian separatists, with evidence likely contaminated.

The bodies of those who perished in the crash have been stored in refrigerated railway wagons so that their remains can be examined and given the proper burial, but investigators accessing the site have had a heck of a time getting there.

This morning, they had to do it amid artillery fire sending black smoke into the sky, according to multiple reports.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has ordered government forces to halt fire within the 24-mile radius surrounding the crash site.
