All Clear Given At Fort Lee After Reported Shooting

According to Fort Lee’s Facebook page, the all clear has been given. The post reports that a female soldier turned a gun on herself and her condition is not known at this time.

The Fort Lee Army Base, located 25 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, was placed on lockdown Monday morning due to an active shooter, according to the base’s Twitter account. The tweet mentions that all personnel are following protocol.

The four-story building involved is the headquarters for the Army’s Combined Arms Support Command. A Pentagon spokeswoman says a shooter on a Virginia Army base did not wound anyone, but she is uncertain of the shooter’s status.

The Department of Homeland Security uses the term “active shooter” to describe someone actively trying to kill people, usually in populated areas, with no pattern of choosing victims.

Fort Lee is about 25 miles south of Richmond and about 130 miles from Washington. According to the military’s website, Fort Lee is the Army’s third-largest training site. Its daily population is 34,000, with service members, families, civilians and contractors.
