Goliath Grouper Eating 4-Foot Shark
A goliath grouper ate a 4-foot shark off the coast of Bonita Springs, Florida and it was all caught on video, which was uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday.
A woman and her family (or friends?) were fishing and had caught a blacktip shark when a nearby grouper came up and decided it was his meal, according to the video’s description. From the video it’s hard to tell which fish the woman was going after.
Goliath groupers are the largest of the western north Atlantic groupers and can reach 800 pounds and over 8 feet in length. The Florida record is a 680-pound goliath grouper caught off Fernandina Beach in 1961.
Blacktip sharks can grow to 4.9 feet and weigh about 40 pounds. The maximum reported length of the blacktip is 8.4 feet. When they’re born, they are about 15-28 inches long.
