Amy Schumer Reads ‘Open Letter To Tampa’

Amy Schumer Addresses Trump Supporters That Walked Out Of Her Show

Amy Schumer and Tampa have become a hot topic around Florida. Two days after almost 200 people walked out of the comedians show she read an open letter to the city during her Tuesday night show at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“I’ve written an open letter to Tampa and I’d like to read it tonight,” she began. “Dearest Tampa, I’m sorry you didn’t want me, a comedian who talks about what she believes in, to mention the biggest thing going on in our country right now. How could I think it was OK to spend five minutes having a peaceful conversation with someone with different views?”

“And Tampa, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said that he was an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster,” she said, adding “Shouldn’t have said that. I will never again say that he is an orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster!”

“After the show, I want you to know that I will go straight to a rehab facility that will teach me how to make all people happy. Both the rich, entitled, white people who are gonna vote for him and the very poor people — who’ve been tricked into it!”

Before the New York show Schumer also referenced Tampa on her Instagram, posting a picture with #tampaapologytour.

What Caused Fans To Walk Out

During Schumer’s Sunday night show in Tampa at Amalie Arena, she had fans boo and walk out after she bashed Republican nominee, Donald Trump, during her set. She took it as far as asking a local Trump supporter to come on stage and explain why he was supporting the candidate.

“Do you get worried at all with how impulsive he is,” Schumer asked, frustration in her voice, per the Tampa Bay Times, “that he gets so fired up from Saturday Night Live doing a skit on him … do you worry he’ll be impulsive and get us in a lot of f—ing trouble we can’t get out of?”

She made it clear she doesn’t understand how people can support Trump. Schumer has been an advocate for stricter gun laws after a man opened fire during a showing of her movie Train Wreck last year, killing two young women, Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson, in Louisiana. She also referred sexual assault and asked anyone in the audience who has been a victim of sexual assault to stand and a dozen did. She recently revealed she was sexually assaulted as well in her book, The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo.
