Warner Bros. is heading to Neverland, revving up its untitled Peter Pan project by offering Javier Bardem the role of the lead villain, Blackbeard.
Variety reported Monday that Warner Bros. was in talks with Joe Wright to direct from the Jason Fuchs script. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the pic is certain to bring back the characters created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie about a boy who can fly and never ages.
Disney is also developing a prequel to the Peter Pan story called “Peter and the Starcatchers,” with Gary Ross on board to direct, and Sony is developing the pic “Pan,” with Channing Tatum to star and Joe Roth producing.
Bardem was last seen in “The Counselor” and is starring with Sean Penn in Pierre Morel’s actioner “The Gunman.”
