BUSCH GARDENS, SEAWORLD TICKET PRICES RISE
The cost of visiting two Florida theme parks is going up, just in time for summer. Busch Gardens Tampa and SeaWorld Orlando on Monday increased the cost of a single-day, general admission ticket purchased at the gates to $95 for adults, up $3. Admission for children is $90. Discounted tickets are available online.
FLORIDA HOUSE SPEAKER EXPECTED TO TESTIFY IN TRIAL
Florida House Speaker Will Weatherford is expected to testify during the second day of a trial looking at whether legislators broke the law when drawing up new political maps. Weatherford, a Wesley Chapel Republican, was in charge of the House committee that oversaw redistricting in 2011 and 2012. Voters in 2010 passed the “Fair Districts” amendment that says districts cannot be drawn in a way to favor incumbents or members of a political party.
STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO DISCUSS NEW STANDARDS
Florida’s Board of Education is preparing to review revisions the Legislature made to the state’s Common Core standards. The board is scheduled to meet Tuesday in the Panhandle town of Milton. Among the agenda items is a review of recent changes made to statewide standards.
LAWYER FACES PRISON IN ROTHSTEIN PONZI SCAM
A South Florida attorney is facing a prison sentence after she was convicted for playing a role in Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein’s $1.2 billion fraud scam. A federal judge in West Palm Beach is set Tuesday to sentence Christina Kitterman. She was convicted in February by a jury on three wire fraud counts, each of which carries a potential 20-year prison sentence. Kitterman’s attorney is seeking a more lenient sentence.
BECKHAM MOVES FORWARD WITH DOWNTOWN MIAMI MLS SITE
David Beckham is moving forward with plans to build a Major League Soccer stadium at a downtown Miami site. Miami Beckham United announced Monday they’d met with Miami officials who recommended locating the stadium at a site near the AmericanAirlines Arena where the Miami Heat play. Beckham consultant John Alschuler said the group was ironing out details, but that everyone agreed it was the best location.
