‘Doomsday Prepper’ Charged With Firearm, Drugs

A St. Petersburg man was sentenced Tuesday to more than eight years in federal prison after investigatiors found firearms and narcotics in his residence.

Jason Deon Thomas, 32, received 97 months for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana, and being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, according to a release from the Middle District of Florida. The court also ordered Thomas to forfeit firearms, ammunition, and $7,390 in currency, which were traceable to the offenses. Thomas pleaded guilty on March 8 and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Mary S. Scriven.

St. Petersburg police, along with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, on Feb. 7 searched Thomas’ residence and found 29 firearms, including six assault rifles, five shotguns, 17 handguns, a machine gun, a silencer, four bullet-proof vests and thousands of rounds of ammunition, the release said. Also found were large amounts of marijuana, cocaine, prescription drugs, and the cash.
