14-Year-Old Who Killed Baby to be Tried as an Adult

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) _ A 14-year-old girl who authorities say secretly gave birth to a son and then strangled him, will be prosecuted as an adult.

Cassidy Goodson will appear in court Friday on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

A Polk County grand jury indicted her on Thursday.

Goodson was arrested Sept. 28 after deputies say she gave birth to a 9.5-pound boy inside a bathroom then strangled him.

Detectives say the girl hid her pregnancy from her family.

She gave birth to a boy in the bathroom of her home on Sept. 19. She told detectives she choked the baby and put him in a shoebox.

The girl’s mother found the baby in the box, hidden in some laundry.

Her lawyer has refused to comment to local media.

    Trying this 14 year old child as an adult is an outrage and I say shame on Florida. Perhaps if she had access to birth control or abortion this tragedy might never have happened. Are there any 14 year old boys who have been tried as adults for killing babies as they are so much more apt to do than girls? Is Florida trying to make this girl an example. When will the parents come up on charges on neglect of their own 14 year old child???

There have been tons of boys tried as an adult, or did you just learn to read today? Government is ALWAYS coddling females, you dummy, not males. And if you had one functioning brain cell in your stupid head, you would KNOW that females kill kids way more than males. It’s just that usually Big Media covers up the stories or makes the female perpetrator the “victim” somehow.

    She was adult enough to lay with a boy, she’s adult enough to deal with the possible consequences. It is not about “making her an example”, it is about justice. That baby did not ask to be conceived, or to be brought into this world, or to be murdered. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m pro-choice; what a woman chooses to do with HER BODY is one thing, but to hold the throat of another living, breathing being to the point of death… She knew EXACTLY what she was doing, & what the result would be of her actions. Abstainence, birth control, abortion, adoption, even raising the baby; she had endless options to prevent or resolve the pregnancy. She ruined two lives, the baby’s and her own. I think of how I had my first child this past year, my 4 month old son, & immediately tear up while reading this. I am also a young mother who had an unexpected pregnancy, I understand the fear, but I NEVER thought of taking my child’s life. May his sweet, innocent soul rest in paradise
